Do car seats expire

So I am currently pregnant with #3 and I'm wondering if I need a new infant car seat. The one I have from my other kids expired Dec 15. I've heard mixed reviews on whether or not they really "expire". What's your experience? I'd hate for something horrible to happen all because I didn't spend $100! The bases don't have an expiration on them (that I can find)....also confused about that. Advice/experience/recommendations??

Get a new one. If you got in an accident and the car seat is expired insurance will not cover any injuries to your baby. Also a lot of hospitals check them and won't let you leave if they are expired. 3rd the plastic can weaken over time so it won't do its job as well.

The plastic is weaker. Also, you can get fined if caught having a child in an expired carseat. If you get in an accident, you can also be charged with child endangerment and neglect.

They do expire. They should have stickers on them and if not, see if you can find a product number or something to look it up. You could also call the manufacturer to double check. Better to be safe than sorry. I want to say most are good for 3-5 years

The supposed expiration date of all car seats is 6 years.

They definitely do. The materials they're made of are severly deteriorated when in the fluctuating temperatures of a car year after year. Just a few hours in 80-degree weather means it can get up to 120 degrees pretty quickly. You wouldn't want your little one involved in a minor accident and have a brittle car seat hurt them from the impact. New car seats follow new safety regulations and provide the flexibility and proper funtionality you need if you're in a car accident.

Do you REALLY want to risk your child's life for a $100 car seat??? Do you know that you can't even throw out an expired car seat in regular trash in case someone picks it out? Why do you think there are laws about expired seats? Not everything is conspiracy..
