Baby food help!

My lo pediatrician told us to start with veggies, cereal then fruit. We've done all stage one of veggies and are ready for cereal. I got oatmeal and rice. I just keep reading that cereals have no real nutritional value. I'm so undecided on what to do. I've read the cereal is mainly for iron which starts to deplete in their body at 6 months.
