How many women have experienced discrimination due to pregnancy, child birth, or having children?

pregnancy, child birth, or having children?" /> I have come across a few posts where women have said they have lost their jobs, been denied leave, or let go upon return. pregnancy related discrimination can occur in many different ways. Is this a coincidence or is it happening more than the world would like to admit ? Share your experiences (positive or negative) with this.

My job I had when I was pregnant with my first would let go anyone who became pregnant, with the exception of managers. And even with the managers, they would try to make their working day hell to get them to quit. They wouldn't allow them to take any extra rests while being on their feet all day, do hard physical labor (lifting & moving 50+lb boxes) climb latters while in their last trimester. I was able to hide my first pregnancy until almost 8 months with them, but was immediately let go once they did find out, a manager became pregnant about a month before me, and I wittnessed how they treated her. Also they offer no paid maternity leave, and if you were even one day late coming back from the states 6 week leave, you were let go, even as a manager. I was talking to the other woman before I was let go, and she had to work until she went into labor, and planned to be back by no more then 4 weeks pp, to make sure they wouldn't get rid of her.

It was awful, and then I see so many woman insisting that this stuff doesn't happen, and everyone they know has had 3+ months of maternity leave and how maternity leave is so wonderful here. It makes me upset, because if we keep refusing to acknowledge that this happens frequently, then we will never change how moms are treated in the work place.

My issues mostly came with breastfeeding postpartum, taking my earned leave for family issues, and my annual rating not progressing the years I took maternity leave. I've had three children and my managers have all been bigoted men. It is what it is. I fight the fights I can win. For instance I work a federal job and they can gripe all they want about pumping at work, but it's illegal for them to deny me the space, time, and fridge to do so. So that fight I can win and shluff off. The rest I take in stride. In the end, I'm an awesome employee and my relationships with my bosses is always fairly good. Pregnancy and postpartum issues definitely take their toll though. Thank goodness I'm now done having kids!

When I found out I was pregnant with number two, the doctor said... and I quote, "Unplanned, huh? Different father from the first?" I was like... excuse me? It's not just the workplace where discrimination can happen. I've been at Babies R Us and had a woman tell me that it must be hard bringing a second one into the world alone. I'm looking around like damn, I have to bring my SO with me everywhere?

As a woman I have faced discrimination. But not because of pregnancy or a child or anything. I am unmarried & single. But there's a lot of discrimination that happens all the time. Comment if you want to know specifics of the discrimination.

Every time someone sees that I am pregnant they look so judgemental then when they see my ring they're smiling and happy. Like wtf does it matter if I'm married or not. I don't know you and you're not gonna be around my kid ever I may never see u again. 😤

Positive of being pregnant I guess could be that you receive a lot of extra help, though personally I thought some of it could go towards someone else who needed it more.

A negative is trying to keep a job during pregnancy. If there's anything that pisses bosses off it's becoming pregnant sortly after starting work.

Straight up was told over the phone I would not be hired for an assistant city pool manager position because I was pregnant and too much of a liability. 
I continued ( with my doctors permission ) to lifeguard at my current job with the YMCA and wore a two piece and just set my rescue tube on my big belly! 
I filed a discrimination complaint with the state and my boss and the boss is the city pool cintrived a plan to make a statement that I was not hired form" other reasons". I wish I had had a phone recording of that conversation when she told me it was because I was pregnant !! 
When I was ready to come back to work after 3 weeks maternity leave my YMCA pool manager refused to put me on the schedule. She said " well I had to hire someone while you were gone! I can't just fire them now " 
WTF?!?

I personally haven't because I'm only 15 and not pregnant and have no children, but I was talking to my Math teacher about how when he used to work back and another Catholic school several years ago and one of his female students fell pregnant. He was a friend of her and her family and told her not to panic and took her to the school office to see what would happen with her schooling. He couldn't stay because he had a class to teach, but he came back and she wasn't in the office. The nun of the school told her to clean out her locker and then sent her home in a taxi. My teacher lost his shit at the nun and basically screamed "You preach all this bullshit about being loving, accepting and forgiving, and then turn around and throw a vulnerable, innocent 15 girl out of school when she needs help the most?! You're a bloody hypocrite, and you can shove that crucifix up your ass and get f*cked!". I'm not sure if he was fired or not (wouldn't be surprised if he was though), but luckily the girl had support and was helped by her family.
