I'm confused

So I met this guy through a mutual friend back in March and we had talked for two months until our first date in may (I was away at school)  well we started dating he called me beautiful and gorgeous as pet names since the very beginning and last week he broke up with me out of the blue because he said that he wasn't going to wait around forever to have sex with me. I am a virgin and I had told him when we first started talking that I was somewhat scared to be that vulnerable with someone and it would take time and he said he would never push me to do something I didn't want to do. And he was never overly sexual with me when we talked or were out together. I guess the question I have is do you think he had feelings for me or just wanted sex? The worse part is that I was falling in love with him and I felt that I was becoming ready and when I got back from my summer class in a month I was wanting to meet his family and vice versa and then I would have ok with everything.
