I love you = I'm in love with you?

My friend and I have had a running debate for a while now. She says if you say I love you to your s/o it means you're IN love with them. I say it means you have a lot of love for them and it could LEAD to being IN love later on. What do you guys think? :)

Well me and my boyfriend are in love, but we only say I love you. To me I'm not the one to be like oh you only love me your not "in" love with me. We have made that distinction now. But after dating for 6 years he better be in love with me!

I feel like those words mean different things depending on whose saying them. If someone thinks they mean the same thing, they will probably use those words interchangably. Everyone expresses their love differently and this might be and example of that.

Hm, not to sure, I mean everything my boyfriend leave to work I tell him "I love you" but he knows and we both know we're in love with each other
