What's a registry ?

I'm from the UK so have no idea about American things. 
I've seen a lot about registries on here. What are they? Just being nosey 😝

Basically a list of things you need and want. People are most likely going to get you gifts for your baby, so they go onto your registry to get you what you've already picked out. I didn't know this was an American thing!

It's like shopping for your baby in hopes that others will buy it for you. Most stores that sell baby gear let you go through the store and scan all the items you basically want others to buy for you at your baby shower the list is posted online for guests to see and they can shop from your registry list and show up to your baby shower with all the items you've selected, that's how it should work but most ppl buy you what they want and not what's on the registry though.

I too am from the UK and found the idea of a baby registry very alien - it's like a wedding list but for the baby - they have them for baby showers so guests can choose a gift to buy if they want to
