What's a growth ultrasound?

I'm having one at 20 weeks and don't know which type of ultrasound it is. Over the tummy or internal?

They actually did both on me that day- abdominal and vaginal.

It's also called an anatomy scan. Mine was done over the tummy. The baby is big enough at that age for a regular abdominal ultrasound. They will take measurements of the baby, check vital organs, etc. Its essentially a check-up to make sure baby is growing on track, that there are no concerns with their vital organs, etc. Then, if you want to know gender, they can tell you the gender. They will also check your uterus and the location of your placenta. It's a pretty neat experience!

Abdominal. It's an anatomy scan. It's a lot longer than a normal u/s. They are looking at growth of the baby, but also looking at the heart, stomach, vertebrae, femur length, bladder, head size, etc to make sure baby is growing good.

I had both, they measured baby's different body parts then did a transvaginal to measure my cervix and look at my place to placement
