Baby wearing question

I am very nervous at the idea of using the fabric to hold my baby. I know tons of people do it and it's safe but I don't know if I'd feel comfortabl/trust that it will hold baby properly. I feel like I'd be constantly having one hand on her. Do you ladies think a carrier would be better for me then? I'm not sure what's better a carrier or the material ones
