I came back home early....

Kayla

I came back home early from work about 20 minutes ago with sunglasses to hide my red eyes. I ripped my scrubs off and climbed into bed. It's 1:28 p.m.

My OB GYN called to give me my test results. This whole time I thought the infertility could be caused by me. I have abdominal surgery history and painful periods; the thought if it being my husband never crossed my mind. The doctor requested the semen analysis to eliminate all of the possibilities.

That phone rang and I was expecting to hear that I would need to go on progesterone pills. Maybe my testosterone levels were too high? Maybe nothing was wrong and we just needed to investigate further. But, none of this was the case. In fact, it had nothing to do with me.

"You're husband has very few viable sperm." Is what the doctor said. I tried to keep focused on the rest of what she was saying so I took notes. I'm glad I did take notes because I wouldn't have remembered what she said. I asked her my next step. She replied that we would need to see a fertility specialist and a neurologist. She wanted another sample to be sure, but we both knew that the result was accurate. From there the options will be most likely some form of IVF.

The last 2 and a half years have been denoted to having a family. We have a house with 6 bedrooms. We have 2 reliable vehicles that can seat 7 people. We live close to our parents so that when we do have kids they will be close to family. And we both have middle class jobs with benefits. We are set. We are 22 and 24. But we are completely set.

So now a new chapter begins. IVF.
