How fast after getting your membrane stripped can you go into labor?

I know I know everyone is different!!! Just thought id ask. Also, how does she do it and how often is it actually effective? She said it doesn't work sometimes. Does it hurt? She's doing it to me next week at my 38 week appointment

It is one of those things that will only work if your body is actually ready to go into labor. I know people who have gone into labor the same day and people who have been stripped 2 or 3 times over several weeks with nothing happening.

Yes I heard it does hurt.. And if it works for you, you will be in labor within 48 hours

Oh and how it's done. You're doctor will push her fingers through your cervix and move them around in a circle to separate the bottom of the sack from the membrains holding it to your uterus.

I had it done a week before I was due with my 1st, it hurt like hell, and she told me to walk for two hours when I got home...so I did...and... nothing!!!! I bled the whole week, and my little guy still came when he was ready on his due date. If baby is ready, baby will come, unless you are medically induced :-)

I have had it done twice and getting it done today for a third time. They can only do it properly if your around 2cm+. It is painful in some cases if they do it right. But the pain always subsides by the time we get to the car. It's usually the last thing they do before they let you leave the office. Most times you get BH contractions after. The last time she did it to me I had them off and on all week. I'm hoping today that third time is the charm. We are 39 weeks today. ❤️❤️ Don't be afraid of it!

I've had it done with both my pregnancies, first time it didn't hurt that bad and I noticed an immediate change and had my son 2 days later. The second time it hurt like hell and there wasn't much of a change at all. It def depends. Not sure if they will do it before 39 weeks with this pregnancy, but if they will I will def let my dr try.

It didn't hurt too much for me but everyone is different. I've had it done three times and still pregnant at 40+2 and my cervix is 3cm and 80% effaced. So I'm the unlucky one.

I had mine done 2 days from my due date and went into labor that night, had my son the next day. It didn't hurt but my friends have said that it did for them! Good luck!

I've had mine done twice.  At 37 and 38 weeks due to baby size.  Both times were not painful.  Just uncomfortable.  But like everyone says, every person is different.  My dr warned me it only works approx 1 in 4 times and is less effective for a FTM (like myself) but was worth a shot in the hopes of having a natural Labour.  After the first time my early Labour symptoms got worse and I lost my mucus plug and had a bloody show.  But nothing.  Two days after the second time I started losing the plug again.  But nothing.  
I go in this week at 39.5 weeks and am being induced.  Fingers crossed

I had mine sweep when I was already having bad contractions. My midwife, when I had my 3rd baby just sped it up so that same day I was admitted to labor and delivery. I had a good feeling I was going to give birth knowing how much pain I was feeling and I was already dilated at 3cm almost 4 so they just kept me at the hospital on the day of my appointment I was also 39wks. But like all the ladies are saying, everyone is different and depends on your body also the baby.
