Positive OPK and periods without ovulation?

Hey Glow-ers!

Greetings from London, UK.

I've been TTC for about 12 months. Since coming off the contraceptive pill, my periods have been all over the place but I've now had three in a row with a 34-day cycle.

I seem to get conflicting advice when I Google this... does getting a period definitely mean you ovulated that cycle? And likewise, does a positive opk mean you're definitely going to ovulate that cycle? Or is it possible the hormones spike but ovulation does not take place?

I would recommend signing up to fertility friend. My husband and I have been TTC all year and I though I knew EVERYTHING about ovulation and hormones etc, but I've been learning so many new things from fertility friend and it's really helped to understand EXACTLY what's going on. 
Just to answer some of your questions, a positive OPK means am LH surge was detected. LH is released to rupture the follicle that holds the egg, so yes you will ovulate if you get a positive result. Also, if you get a period that's consistent with your 34 day cycle then I would say you're ovulating. Sometimes unovulatory cycles happen, but if they're back to back your cycles won't be regular. You can have anovulatory bleeding that can be confused with a period. If you want to confirm you're ovulation I'd recommend charting bbt for a few cycles.
