TMI - mucus?!

I'm nearly 12 weeks. When I went to the loo today I had a LOT of yellowy discharge. It was sort of gelatinous and stringy. Luckily for you ladies I didn't think to take a pic! Is this normal?! Am worried as my friend lost her mucus plug early and had to be on bed rest for a while!!
