Casual dating?

My boyfriend and I have been together for a year and we have kind of an unusual kind of relationship. So we are both busy people, and have high goals in life that we want to achieve. We are both into sex, and attraction for one another. Our chemistry are really great, but it's more than just friends with benefits. We're both okay with meeting once a month and catching up on lives along the way. Then we're off for awhile again. Is there such a thing as casual dating? I am perfectly fine with the current situation since I want to have the time to focus on my goal and give him his space as well. Ambitious people :v But yeah, do anyone of you share the same experience? I am just curious.
