Let their newborn cry it out?

My sweet little guy has been fussy and needy the past four hours. He is fed, burped, got gas drops, had a poopy diaper that has been changed and I feel like I've done it all. My husband wanted me to put him in his bed and leave him there to cry it out hoping he will fall asleep. I know this is common with older babies but is this okay to do with a newborn?? I feel so guilty :(
