What's your worst motherly advice to other moms?

I figured this might be controversial depending on the advice.

What's the best not-so-popular advice you could give to other moms with children 0-17?

Mine is that you should enjoy the long waiting times at the doctors office. The longer the wait time the longer the snooze time, and there's nothing to feel guilty about because it's out of your hands.

Don't sweat the small stuff. The world will not end if your house isn't always spotless. It won't end if your toddler refuses to eat your nice healthy home cooked meal. It won't end if your kid has to walk from the crowd to the store without a jacket in the cold because they're being a snot that day. Stuff happens and if you insist on perfection constantly both you and your kids will end up miserable. Best piece of advice I was ever given was "pick your battles". Some things just aren't worth fighting a small child over.

I have three small kids. My oldest just turned 5 last week and my first is 5 months old. My advice is to just get it done however you can. My husband works out of town. I am a hardworking career mom without help! There are no rules. I do what I have to do to get everything done and everyone survives. Whatever I can safely do to get my LO to sleep, I do. Whatever gets me through the day, I do. I don't give a shit what other parents think. My kids are happy, clothed, need for nothing, are well adjusted, used to pitching in and helping out, and love their Mommy. It's all I could ever ask. So if you are struggling, put the books down, forget the rules and do whatever works!

Take time to explain things to your child. When you have a new rule, when your child asks a question, when someone does something out of the ordinary in public, when you have to say "no" when earlier today you were able to say "yes"... Really take the extra 30 seconds to help your child understand what's going on, and if you can't take that time in the moment, be sure to explain it at the earliest convenience.
So often parents just move through life dragging their child behind them. Be the parent that rests their hand on the child's shoulder and points out all of the beautiful, messy, chaotic, delicious things this world has to offer to your little person.

The worst advice for other moms is any and all advice related to sleeping, bc, you know, that's one size fits all for sure. Also, be sure to follow all the latest parenting trends to a T, make all food organic (thou shalt never taste a cheeto or a freeze pop!) and from scratch, never let the kid see a screen even though we are surrounded by them, all toys must be made of wood and hand carved by virgins, never lose your patience bc, you know, as a mother you aren't really allowed to experience a full range of human emotions, you must maintain an air of serenity and peace at all times. And finally, be sure to buy many flash cards, enroll your child in many classes, start writing that college essay when they get into preschool, bc today's parent must "achieve through parenting" or be judged harshly by the mom police, i.e. Other moms.

Modern parenting is a joke! Long live the 80s mom! Go outside, come back when it's dark. Here's a hotdog and some kool aid.

It's ok not to actively devote 100% of your time to them. Obviously make them the centre of your world and make sure they are always under a watchful eye but let them learn to entertain themselves. Last thing you want is to overstimulate.
