Cord blood banking? FTM in need of advice

Hi ladies!
I'm a FTM and all this cord blood banking talk has me confused. Can someone explain to me the benefits of it if you did it or why you didn't choose to do it?

Here is what I was told with my first: if you do not have any reoccurring diseases in your family history then cord banking will probably just cost us a lot of money for nothing. (This was from a rep) We were told to look into cord blood donation as it could be used rather quickly and it will help someone in need.

My hospital was not ready for donations at that time, so we weren't able to do it. We will be able with this baby.

I looked it up and the chances of it being useful are extremely small. The vast majority of cases of stem cells being used have come from public cord blood donation.

I wanted to do it until I looked into it more. For one it's too expensive to have them store it for who knw how long because right now there isn't a whole lot to do with it. So instead I went with a delayed cord cutting to get as much of the stem cells in the placenta transfered to my baby.

I probably won't, because I'm thinking I want to delay cutting the cord. But I still have more research to do...sigh.
