Thankful for my mother's instinct
This was my third pregnancy and my first boy. We were thrilled. He was moving all of the time, and I mean all the time. Sunday I noticed that he wasn't moving as much as usual but I didn't think to much of it. I had an appointment scheduled for Tuesday. Monday morning I decided to reach out to my doctor and they had me come in and get hooked up to the monitor. I didn't think to much of it. I mean he was moving a little but not as much as usual.

While on the monitor they did not see as much movement as they hoped for so I was sent to get an ultrasound. During the ultrasound I could see his hands moving and his heart rate was normal but still not a lot of movement. After I met with the doctor and she said I scored 6 out of 8 (not sure on what scale) so she sent me over to labor and delivery. She said they have better equipment and would be able to monitor him better.
I still wasn't to worried. I'm a pretty calm person. As soon as I got checked in they put me in a gown and hooked me up to the big monitor that tracks your contractions.
Everything happened so quickly from there. The doctor came in and talked about an emergency c-section and not enough time to wait for blood work so I would have to be put out. We talked about my options, which there was only 1.
I was rushed back. Luckily I was able to have an epidural so I was awake for it all. The cord was wrapped around my son's torso 4 to 5 times so tightly that the doctor couldn't clamp the cord. She had to untwist him quickly and he was rushed away. A few minutes later my husband was invited to see my son.
Once the doctor was finished with me she went to see if my son had indentations from the cord because of how tightly it was wrapped around him. Weston was perfectly healthy at 6lbs and 21in. She told us that if we had waited another day, he would not have made it. A few days earlier she had a similar situation that unfortunately didn't end happily 😢
Everything happened so quickly that day but we are very thankful that it did. Because of my motherly instincts and the quick action by the nurses and doctors, my baby boy is happy, healthy and alive!
