Effacement or dilation?

37 weeks ftm and was checked for the first time today. I'm 50% effaced and only 1 cm dilated. Which would you say is more important? My dr sucks at answering questions

So effacement. Means ur cervix is thinning, dilation means ur birth canal is opening. In order to dilate you 1st must thin ur cervix (efface) than ur body begins to dilate more.

I've been 50% effaced and dilated to 1cm for a MONTH now. No changes and I'm due in 5 days.

Dilation is more important in regards to being able to have your membranes swept, etc. If you're closed up/not open enough, they can't help you along naturally by sweeping your membranes or breaking your water.

Effacement is more important. Your cervix will not dilate unless it thins out (effacement)

The dilation is more important in my opinion. Just because it gives you an idea where you are.
