Is it really all that important to wait three weeks after giving birth to take a bath?

So dr said to wait three weeks after giving birth to take a bath. Just wondering what your drs have told you, or your experience with it. I really just want to soak in a nice hot bath

You'll want to wait. There is blood constantly pouring out of you. It doesn't stop like your period. And yes, it's necessary because your cervix is still open and they don't eat you getting a gnarly infection.

It is to prevent infection and since the cervix is still open I'd say listen to the doctor

Talked to Dr last night. He gave me the ok to take a bath. Thank goodness lol

When I had both of my children(16 &18) the dr and my midwife both told be to sit in the bath everyday until my stitches were healed. I've never heard of not bathing after.

I've been told u can get an infection if u don't wait

I never waited but i took showers... I dont think its good to sit in the water after a vaginal birth... And like everybody said its constant blood flow

It's mostly to avoid infection. Bath water (especially hot) holds the bacteria and you just kind of stew in it. In order for the water to be 'too hot for germs', you wouldn't be able to touch it with your bare skin. You can do what you want but that's the reasoning behind it.

It depends how comfortable you are with possibly having blood I your bath! 
You can sit in a bath pretty much right away, but you can't actually BATHE (like with soap) and of course no bubble baths or anything like that (Epsom salt is ok). 
You also don't want to stay in too long.

Depends if you had a csection or not. I had to wait 6 weeks to bath because of my incision but my mom said with all her vaginal births she bathed right away to help with pain and healing
