can babies have pink eye?

my 2.5 month old daughter has been having more eye boogers in one eye than normal the past few days but when I got up with her just now to change her diaper her eye was all crusty and a little stuck shut on the outside. like her lashes had gotten so wet they crusted shut when it dried. I opened her eye and while it's not red it just seems like pink eye to me. but I don't know if babies can even have pink eye. she hasn't come in contact with anyone that has it. probably gonna bring her to the urgent care today? or should I just make an appointment for tomorrow with her pediatrician?

*she is NOT in daycare of any kind so I know for sure she's not been in contact with anyone that is it.

I'm a midwife babies get it all the time. Clean it with normal saline on a cotton ball from the inside of the eye to the outside of the eye, one wipe only and then get a new cotton ball so you don't reintroduce the infection from one eye to the other. If you are breastfeeding you can spray some of your milk onto a cotton ball also and do the same thing, very healing. I did it for my son if his eyes ever got gunky (they get eyelashes in their eyes all the time)

I would say it's conjunctivitis. A cotton ball dipped in warm salt water then ring it out so its not wet enough to drip into her eye. Take her to the doctors when you can but that's is what he will most likely tell you to do.

I work at an eye doctor... And it could be vital or bacterial... Take her to the urgent care so they can get a RX for some eye drops... Hope she feels better!
