11yr old,in delivery room?

Opinion wanted!
The big question. Is katie old enough to be in the birthing room with me and kevin? She's 11 will be 11 half when butterfly is here. Ill be going natural.

No wrong or right would like to know your opinion on delivery room and childs age

I think it should be up to her.  Let her know you're going to be in a lot of pain,  maybe show her some videos and let her decide. Remember how much can go wrong and you don't want to traumatize her if she isn't prepared to see everything.

I think as her mom you have to judge if she can handle it. If she can, there's nothing wrong with it in my opinion. Maybe give her the option to stay on the head end or leave if it bothers her. Also maybe prepare her that you might yell or bleed "some," and that it's normal and you are still okay, that it doesn't mean anything is wrong.

I watched my mom deliver my siblings at once at the age of 9 and again at the age of 13. She had a home birth and then a birthing center birth. I think it depends on the maturity level of the child and discussions that take place before hand. My mom was very open to what was going to happen and she loved birth shows so I had an idea on what to expect. If you don't explain what's going to happen before hand or treat it like a scary experience she will probably be afraid/not want to be in the room. For me it started my love of natural birth and the idea of midwifery being the career I wanted. 😊 I'm sure you'll do what is best for your family!

I'm probably going to have my 6 year old there. Mostly cause I don't want my in-laws there to "come get him" and we don't have anyone else. My in-laws live almost an hour away.

I was in the room when my youngest brother was born and I was only 8. I would let her be in the room, it was a great experience for me! I also took a class through the local hospital just for siblings who wanted to be in the room, and my mom had a room that had another room attached where my grandma was so if I got scared or things got overwhelming I could go in there with her. If it's something your daughter wants to do, go for it!

When I was about 11, my mother's good friend, who's husband was away in the military, went into labor in the middle of the night. My mother took her to the hospital and I went too. I stayed in the delivery room the whole time with them. Though a little young to fully grasp the whole experience, I never felt I was TOO young to be in there. Ultimately, if you and your SO are comfortable with her being in there then I think it should be up to her. Good luck!

I think it depends on you. If you're yelling in pain and what not she'll probably get scared. If you're a tough cookie and keep your cool, she may be able to handle it. You're her mama, you ultimately know yourself and your daughter best.

My daughter will be seven at the time of delivery and she wants to be in the delivery room very badly. We have yet to discuss with the hospital but as long as they don't have any issues she will be in there. We have talked in depth about what to expect and have read books about babies.
