PCOS, Metformin, and Gestational Diabetes?

Hi!

So, I have PCOS was put on Metformin to help "regulate" my cycle (which my cycle still never can on it's own unless I took Medroxyprogesterone to jump start it). Anyway, I took other Fertilty Drugs to become pregnant (Clomid and a Trigger Shot) and am now 27 weeks!
I was just diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes and was wondering if anyone knows if you can become diabetic after pregnancy? The only reason I ask is because Metformin is a medicine that people with diabetes take (and I was prescribed it to become pregnant). So, I'm unsure if I have a higher chance of diabetes after pregnancy or if it'll most likely go away after my sweet boy is born?

I also have been diagnosed with PCOS, I also take metformin. Metformin is the drug of choice to help with symptoms of PCOS.. However, PCOS generally goes hand in hand with Insulin Resistance which could be a precursor to type 2 diabetes later in life. To break it down... In a normal person only so much insulin is needed at a time to break down what you consume into sugars that the body can process and the cells can absorb. When you are insulin resistant, your body doesn't break down food especially carbs like they are supposed to.. So in response more insulin is released from the pancreas to get the job done. Metformin helps to make your body respond more normally to the breaking down process, therefore reducing how much insulin is pumped out. This is why with PCOS and insulin resistance they push a low carb diet. Your body may at some point no longer pump out enough insulin, this is generally when you are diagnosed as a type 2 diabetic. GD has been linked to an increased risk of DM2 in the future, but it is not a guarantee. Your body will most likely return to its pre pregnancy state once baby is born.

You took metformin for pcos not diabetes. Gestational diabetes goes away after delivery.
