Does my husband have an alcohol problem??

So every night after work my husband will have 3-5 cans of beer and sometimes a glass of wine. He's never drunk or anything like that but I can't remember a time when he hasn't had a can in the evening. He was supposed to do 'dry July' but only made it one night without a beer! When I approach him about it he just dismisses it and gets defensive. Is it an issue? Or do I just leave it?

Being a child of 2 alcoholic parents (both in recovery now) one thing I learned is that someone's 1, 2, or 3-5 drinks beer or otherwise is just as, for lack of a better word, addictive, as someone who gets blackout drunk everynight. so the issue turns into if he doesn't see it as a problem there isn't much you can do.

In my opinion, yes. He's way over the safe guidelines, and not being able to give it up for a short period of time generally indicates a problem. Not being drunk isn't a sign of much, because after a while of drinking, people become accustomed to that much alcohol in their system. They don't test any lower than anyone else, they just function better.

I will say, though that there's very little you can do until he realizes it's a problem. I had a friend who would refuse to spend time with her husband when he drank. Alcohol came out, and she went somewhere else. It did work, once he realized he needed her more than that drink.

That's a lot.  I would be concerned.  ESP with him getting defensive.  I could see one beer maybe 2 every few nights but 3 to 5 a night is a lot.  I would tell him your concerns
