No dilation!?!?

I am 37 weeks today. I went to my doctor yesterday and was told my cervix was CLOSED. She told me that her head was extremely low in the birth canal but that my cervix was closed. Not happy at all right now. Going to be doing some extra curricular activities this weekend to see if that will help me dilate.

I understand you so well :))) I'm 38 weeks and not dilated yet at all. She is not even engaged. The only good thing is that she is head down. I'm very active and was very active throughout pregnancy. I do yoga almost every day and I walk every day for one hour. I also do squats. But as we see it did not help. I am very relaxed though and just waiting very patiently her first decision of coming out :))) It will happen when he/ she is ready, don't stress yourself. Positive latitude is the best thing you can give to yourself now :)

In UK they don't even check us until labour

I'm a midwife, you aren't expected to be open at all yet. You need labour or some sort of contraction/period type pains to get things going. Don't let it worry you! Here in aus we don't even check people routinely. Until you are in labour there is really no need to check.
