When did you start pumping?

Question

My little man is now 4 weeks old.  I have been exclusively breast feeding.  Wondering when I should start pumping.  When did you start? When do you pump? And how frequently?

I waited til 4 weeks to start pumping to establish good latch and all. I'm at the point where I can freeze at least one 4 oz bag a day and refrigerate another bag so daddy can feed him while I cook dinner, run an errand or something and still feed him on demand

So I took a breast feeding class a few weeks ago. If you plan on returning to work at the end of your maternity leave, you should start pumping now. Allow baby to eat their fill and then pump the rest out of each breast.

I was told by my Lactation consultant to start pumping as soon as possible to store milk. She recommended that I wait to give my daughter a bottle until the 3 week mark to make sure she won't didn't have nipple confusion. Also, she recommended my husband to be the first to feed her, so she wouldn't reject feedings from him. I only pump once a day and that is when my hubby is feeding her at night. I'm around her all the time, & it's easier to just throw her in my boob during the day. Hope the info helps!!!

My insurance only covers the cost of a pump if you order it after baby is born and it took a little less than a week for shipping, so I started when my baby was about a week or so old. We had to supplement formula before my milk came in so I knew she would take a bottle so I had no qualms about pumping so my husband could do a night feeding. I don't remember how often I did it in the beginning, but now I do a morning and evening pump session and I pump whenever I skip a feeding or if I'm  still uncomfortable after nursing from engorgement.

I also had a cracked/bleeding nipple from latch issues in the early days, so I saw a lactation specialist who gave me a manual pump to tide me over until my electric one came in. I used the manual on the injured side until it healed and I could nurse on it again.
