Transitioning Toddler Back to Crib

So, I'll start with a little bit of a back story. Our son is 1 and a half, almost 2 (20 months to be exact). He started out sleeping in his crib. But never fully through the night. When he was about 7 or 8 months old we took a week long trip to AZ, plane ride and all. So, because it was a new place with new people, he didn't sleep well on his own. So, stupid me, I allowed him to cosleep. When we got back to PA, it was hard to wean him off of cosleeping, and here we are almost a year later with him still in our bed.

Obviously there is a lot of research that shows cosleeping may not be a good option (if you do cosleep, I understand and you will not receive judgment from me). But, now that he's getting bigger, my husband and I are getting pushed out of the bed, and it's just not working out. So, how can I get him to go back to his crib? We tried it as a toddler bed, and needless to say that didn't work as well as we were hoping.

Any advice, would be appreciated. Please no judgement, I can handle constructive criticism but harsh comments will not help anyone. Thank you in advance!
