Is this a boy name??

Okay so I'm 11w3d and my husband and I are trying to decide on baby names! We don't have our girl name decided yet but we decided on "Matty Grey" for a boy name. We both LOVE it but when both of our parents asked about names they said that our so would be made fun of for that name and we're asking for it. Do you guys think a boy named Matty is wrong or is it just them?

I don't like how nick-namey it is. Matty may be cute for a young boy, but is Matty a mature adult mans name? Professional name? A doctors name? No, not me.
What about Matthew Grey, you can call him Matty. But, also giving him a respectable name for any age and any occupation.

The only thing I could potentially see as a problem, is that you're giving him a nickname as a name. Granted he can go by Matt if he chooses to, but that's it. 
My FIL's name was Johnny, which he hated and legally changed to John when he was 18.
With all of that in mind, if that's the name you want for your son, then give that name to your son! It's your choice, no one else's.
Family matters, but in this situation, their opinion is moot.

My cousins name it Matthew and we have always called him Mattie. Still do and he's 28 now. I don't see it as a first name though, but a nickname is cute, because he might want something more manly. But he could always go by Grey once he gets older.
