Epidural experiences?

Question

I am being induced with my first baby tomorrow at 10pm! I definitely plan on getting an epidural & I would like to hear some stories from people who have had them. How much pain were you in before you got the epidural? How did it feel actually getting it? Did you feel like it really helped you or no? Did you feel anything at all during actual birth? Would you get one again? I'm open to all responses good or bad & feel free to add in extra info or tips. Thank you so much! 💜💕✨

Loved my Epidurals. I recomend waiting until at least 5-6 cm otherwise they can slow down labor. I could still move my legs a little bit which I liked a lot and still felt the desire/urge to push, just no pain! I waited until the pain was near unbearable and with my 2nd child, that meant I only had an epidural for 1.5 hours befor my son arrived. I do recomend having your nursing keep you as upright as possible to help gravity do it's thing. That helps a lot with my son.I love that I felt fully present when my children were born because I wasn't in pain or "out of it" from concentrating so hard in a natural birth. Of course, I think natural birth is wonderful too and actually wanted that with my first (but medically, an epidural helped save my daughter's life) so to each their own but I'm not afraid to advocate for Epidurals if you want one.

Okay, I'm 5 weeks post partum with my first baby. I was induced at 37 weeks for high bp. I did not want an epidural. I got cervedil and was told at 9am the next day I would get whatever the drug is that makes you contract (my mind just went blank and I cannot think of the name). Well at 3am my water broke when I sat up to take a pill. After awhile I got the iv pain meds and before it was all in my iv I was so fucking high it wasn't even funny. And it lasted maybe an hour. After a while longer I wanted it again and so I got it, but it didn't work the second time. I decided to labor in water because I read that helped. I made the water as hot as the temp gauge would let me. Horrible idea. It made my contractions 100 times worse. I couldn't move, talk or see because the pain was so bad. So I got the epidural. My fiancée and the nurse had to hold me still while I got it because I was shaking from pain and hormones. I did not feel the epidural because I was already in so much pain. I remember absolutely nothing after that until it was time to push. So I'm guessing it worked. Pushing hurt, but I don't think it was as bad as it would have been without the epdural. Crowning was the worst part. Not trying to scare you, just telling you what I went through. I had my baby 10 hours after getting cervedil. I was in labor for 4 hours. I pushed for 40 minutes. 10 pushes. It does not happen that fast for everyone. I was pretty lucky with that. Good luck.

I was offered the epidural soon as I arrived the hospital. I waited until I couldn't take the contractions anymore. But when I got it was so painful but I didn't care because it help me so much. I would highly recommend it.

With 1st I waited til 5cm. Pain was unbearable & progress so slow. I didn't feel epidural, only instant relief. I progressed super fast. Felt every bit of pushing. Baby got stuck due to shoulder dysplacia. So I actually got another epi AFTER birth!

With 2nd I went for induction early. They put epi in during early labor, so I could sleep. A lil more fear & discomfort cuz labor pain wasn't God-awful. But I slept, woke up & had progressed so quickly that I delivered before time for another epi.

No issues from epi. I'll be having another with my 3rd.

Was in the worst pain of my life am before I got it abd because of that I didn't feel it at all going in but after I got it I felt like I was in heaven !!

I was in sooo much pain before the epidural , I was throwing up of how bad the pain was..  I was open 6 cm I was 6 cm open when I arrived & they checked me like 40 min later & was still 6cm because I couldn't relax enough to open anymore .. I asked for the epidural & I didn't feel a thing when they gave it to me the contractions were too much for me to even feel getting the epidural. Once I got it they checked me .. Literally went from a 6 to 10 within minutes.. Pushed twice & she was out... Don't feel bad for getting the epidural! Both baby & I were fine.. & yes I have back pains sometimes but pregnacy alone gives you back problems .. Both my sisters didn't get the epidural & they both have back problems. Just do what you got to do (:

I got one after 14 hours of labor I was shaking none stop and crying. I didn't even feel them do the epidural I had to ask if it was done yet. I didn't feel much just light period camping and pressure when I was pushing they like it to wear off some so you can push other wise I didn't feel a damn thing (was finally able to sleep a little) I will be getting one with this pregnacy also seance its a scedruled c-section. If you can't handle the pain I recommend getting one. Plus I have no pain from it what so ever to know if the doctor dose it wrong you can get headaches back pain and stuff like that but mine did amazing

For me, the epidural helped SO MUCH. I was in so much pain beforehand, I waited as long as I could before getting it. I was worried that it would hurt getting the epidural but honestly through the pain of contractions I hardly even noticed it. After I got it it was such a relief. Once it came time to push they turned it down and let it wear off a bit so I could actually feel when pushing but it wasn't a painful feel, just lots of pressure! You will be in pain you will not care how bad it will hurt to get it. I got one with ny first but ever since then my back hasnt been the same i cant bend over for long without it hurting but i would recommend it im getting it with number 2 also.
