No dr will ever guarantee they will be there. They aren't always on call.

If you've missed a good chunk of your appointments they can, legally, "dismiss" you from the practice. They have to notify you they are doing it and usually are obligated to keep seeing you for 30 days after that. If those appointments were already scheduled and you didn't show up you have taken up time that other patients could have been seen. They also are at risk providing your care if your visits have been inadequate because there is a higher chance that you could have undiagnosed complications/risks. You've put them in a very frustrating position...That being said, the hospital is legally obligated to keep you and provide medical care if you come in laboring. You will be assigned to whatever Doctor is on call.

My OBs office only guarantees a doctor from their practice delivers the baby.   They won't guarantee your exact doctor will be the one.   Maybe that's what yours is doing?

My dr office your going to get your dr even if there not on call! They all live a mile away from the hospital the only way I wouldn't get my dr is if she's on vacation or sick lol!

I've never heard of a doctor that guarantees they'll deliver your baby at all. It all depends on who is on call at that time.

Unfortunately, most doctors are extremely motivated by fear of being sued for malpractice if anything goes wrong. So they may put those kinds of stipulations in place to legally protect themselves.
