The first appointment is the longest and ur bf would probably be bored half way though...my first appt was 2 hours long. I can picture my husband sleeping halfway through which is why I told him to not take the day off work. It will be fine!! Your bf should try to take off at least for one appointment so that he can hear the heart beating (2nd tri) def made my husbands day

Especially if you haven't been to your OB's practice before,  expect a long appointment that involves a lot of paperwork.  This is my first pregnancy,  so I don't know what other doctors do, but here's my experience...

Despite being an established patient at my OB/GYN's practice,  I still have a few pages of paperwork to fill out.  They weighed me,  took my blood pressure,  took a urine sample.  My OB came in after the nurses did all the preliminary work.  We chatted about how I feel,  last LMP,  expected due date,  current gestational age and then she took a vaginal ultrasound.  She showed me the tiny flickering blob that was my baby's heartbeat.  She printed me a copy of the image (my baby's first picture!).  We discussed prenatal vitamins,  dos and don'ts. Then she sent me of to get a lot of blood drawn.  We also did a genetic screening,  so there were quite a few vials.

It's exciting and scary but it's really not scary at all.  You will get a lot of information.  I went by myself; it sad enough I have to take time off work to go to see my OB,  the hubs doesn't need to do the same unless it's one of the more "fun" ones.  My husband was there for the NT scan and the anatomy scan where he got to hear the baby's heartbeat and see him move some on screen.  Otherwise,  it's literally a 15 min check in with my OB where she asks how I feel (fine) , if I have any questions,  take a urine sample,  blood pressure and my weight.
