I had the mirena IUD for 3 years, everything was fine with it until last month. On August 2nd I had a positive pregnancy test. My fiancé and I went to the ER because of concerns with the mirena. They confirmed with a urine and blood test I was pregnant, my HCG was 118.8 and the ultrasound showed nothing (they said it was because it was too early) the only thing that was seen was what the assumed was a sac in the uterus, nothing was seen indicating an ectopic pregnancy. I followed up immeadiately with my ob/gyn and she removed my mirena and sent me to have another blood test (48 hrs after the first one) it came back my HCG was 106. My ob/gyn then referred me to another doctor where I was given two shots of methotrexate because based on my HCG levels the pregnancy was not viable. She continued to monitor my HCG until the levels were back to normal (not pregnant) and this all happened in the amount of time it should have and I had no complications. I had my first period after that on August 31 and lasted just over 5 days. My fiancé and I decided that we waned to start trying again as soon as possible, she recommended we wait 3 months so I could heal, assuming the worst (that it was ectopic) but I was only 3 weeks when all this happened and nothing was seen on ultrasound that looked like it was ectopic. I understand and love the fact my doctor is being so cautious, i just feel like 3 months is a long time and waiting is really hard
