no contractions but water breaks?

If there aren't any contractions, do you still go to labor and delivery after your water breaks?? For those that gave birth already, did you have contractions first or did your water break first?

FTM here and officially 41 weeks tomorrow (ugh)!!!

I started leaking when I was told i need to head to L&D go right away as you need to deliver!!

My water didn't break until I'd been pushing for fifty minutes and she was born ten minutes later. My midwives said that of my water broke I didn't have to come in for 12 hours after that. But obviously I got contractions first. 16 hours before my water broke :) so I just went about my day until my contractions got to be 3 minutes apart, went in to the hospital. At 8cm. And three hours later I had a baby.

My water broke but never did have contractions until they gave me some pitocin to start the process then it all went very smoothly. But yes if your water breaks you need to go to the hospital

If your water breaks you need to go in, you may or may not have contractions before your waters go. After your waters break you have a 24 hour or so period in which to give birth, as the risk of infection goes up, and bub no longer has the watery cushion protecting him/her.

Yeah you can't get an infection otherwise and it's not good for the baby to be without amniotic fluid

With my 1st my water broke at 39 weeks,5days. I wasn't feeling any contractions. But because it broke I was told I had only 24 hrs to deliver so they started me on pitocin. It was about 5 or so hours until I actually started feeling contractions.
