5 months pregnant and Bleeding during intercourse.

My husband and I had intercourse this morning. He stoped and tould me i was bleeding. The blood looks like period blood, its red. My mother-in-law tould me that if im not cramping and i can still fill the baby move than iam ok. I went on a drive with her to get somthing to eat. Got back home about 2 hours after the intercourse, and i went to the restroom. You know when your on your period and the inner lining of the vagina sheds. Well the blood looked like that with some peeling skin in it. I know its not a good sighn to be bleeding during pregnancy. I can still fill my baby move and im not cramping. My vagina just fills extremely chaffed. I called my dr and he said to relax and take it easy today, if the bleeding worsens or i start to cramping then i need to come into his office. Sorry to share alot but this is my first pregnancy and i just need to know if there are any moms out there that have experienced something similar to my story.
