Searching a students personal property

So it's been a while back that this happened to me, but I randomly thought of it and wanted to know if the teacher had the right to go through my bag or not. I mean a WHILE back, it was in the 5th grade. I was missing a paper and the teacher took it upon herself to dump all my belongings out of my bag onto the floor, and go through all of it looking for my paper. She was unreasonably mad. I didn't know where the paper was, and I told her I didn't want her to go through my bag because I had money in it. She did it anyways. I had to pick up everything off of the floor and put it all back because she left it strewn all over the floor in front of all the other kids in my class. Did she have the right to do this?
