Pregnant or Period?

Been having really sore nipples this past few days, I have also been very emotional, I cried last night when my bf was just joking around with me. But I am feeling no cramps or anything else, not spotting, just nothing. And my periods are so out of whack that it's difficult to track a missed period. I want to test but, I'm terrified of it being a negative... being female is confusing and frustrating. Any thoughts?
