Anyone with a baby ? Or young child.

Okay so my son is extremely clingy to me and only me . He's nine months old & is still nursing so that and me being a stay at home mom and home with him all day everyday since birth has made him into a big mamas boy I love it , but it seems lately he's turned into the biggest cry baby if I'm not holding him , and he's wanting to comfort nurse all night . I can't get anything done during the day . He just wants to be held .. And then at night I can't get a good hour of sleep without him wanting to nurse . I didn't want to start the habit if him sleeping in the bed with us but when he's up he refuses to go back to sleep and his bed is in our room . He'll cry excessively for an hour . So i end up putting him in bed with me and DH . Any suggestions or advice on how to break this ?

Do you think it's a phase he's going through or is he always clingy? There's a great book called 'the wonder weeks' about babies developmental 'leaps' they go through at certain ages when their behaviour seems to regress (and drive us crazy). Google it as there's plenty of info about activities you can do to help them. If you don't want to co sleep as hard as it is to stop it now, it'll be easier than when he's walking and talking. Maybe try giving him a soft toy that smells like you (put it in your bra for a while) for comfort? Ask friends and family to come over and do fun stuff with him so you get a break but you're not far away?

They only want to be held for maybe 3 years out of their life. Why not hold them? :( some day you'll wish you had these times back! I suggest cosleeping :) also, make sure he isn't sick because babies can be extra clingy when feeling down.

These are some seriously sad comments to read! I still breastfeed my 15 month old, and I remember that ultra-clingy phase. It seems like it's never ending, but he will get better, I promise. Comfort nursing isn't a bad thing, and I can't believe people are suggesting letting him cry it out. Everything is new and big and changing, new teeth are coming in, his body is stretching  and he's still figuring out solid foods... Comfort nursing still provides some nourishment, and it deepens that bond of trust he has in you. I'd invest in a soft-structured carrier (like an ergobaby, which are on sale for $70 today at zulily!) to help you get things done during the day. As for not cosleeping, I'm not much help, but I've heard good things about the book No-Cry Sleep Solution

I have a 2 yr old. Very clingy. What I do is hide a toy and tell her to find it. It's a game. While she's doing our hide the toy game I get things done. It may only be 5 minutes, but then I hide it again. She loves it. I hope soon she will get used to not being in my arms all the time. Before it was 2 minutes. Now it's 5 she can be away from my arms. Next time it could be a little longer. I don't suggest letting them cry it out. They get a sense of abandonment. I adopted my 2 yr old from an orphanage. She was already abandoned.

He also needs to learn to let you get things done. Start maybe by putting him down during naps. Then work your way to putting him in a PAC N PLAY while you do things. 5-10 minutes at a time. Keep him within your site so he knows your not leaving and talk to him. He will cry again. And again it sucks. But you need to do something to break him of the clingyness.

First off, don't let him comfort nurse!!!! He is using you nipples as a pacifier. Try a bunch of different pacifiers until you find one he likes and then give him that unless he is eating.

​As for the clingyness... This is gonna suck an I'm sorry to say it but I had to do it with my daughter... You have to let them cry.  Put his crib in his own room. You can let him fall asleep with you for another week or so. When he's asleep, put him in his own room for the night. Then start putting him to sleep on his own bed. He's not gonna like and it's going to break your heart to hear him cry. My daughter sounds like he's being tortured sometimes the way she cries and I end up crying!!!!! As long as he is fed and dry he is okay :) he will eventually get used to it. It is going to be easier to do it now than wait until he is a year or more.

Hopefully it's just a phase he'll grow out of soon! Honestly, it may sound cruel but I'd let him cry for an hour, or more at night and check up on him every 15 minutes. I had to do this kind of extreme sleep training with my son who would never sleep when he was a baby. He has a condition that causes insomnia but now he is so used to his routine if he wakes up, he'll just play in bed and let us sleep. It's incredibly important as a parent to make sure your own needs are met so you can be a good mommy! The book I read on sleep training was called: "On Becoming Babywise". Good luck, it is not easy!

My 6 month old is like this she literally can't be left with out me it's nice to know she misses me but she gets her little self so worked up
