protection & the IUD?

Do you gals wear condoms as well as having the Mirena IUD? I have on partner. Just wondering? Is it less effective without condoms? Or you always have to have both no matter what?

It's just as effective with or without condoms, but condoms are the only form of contraception that protects you from STIs (besides abstinence, lol).  Using the IUD exclusively for birth control is highly effective, at 99.9%.  It is the most effective form of birth control available as long as it is properly in place.  It's your choice to use condoms or not.  I personally don't use them with my boyfriend.  However I am well aware of the risks involved, should one of us have unprotected sex with another person, and then have sex with each other.  The only way to know for sure if you and your partner are STI free is to get tested. I would highly recommend getting tested before you consider not using condoms.

For me personally it's less effective without a condom. I became pregnant with my little girl on the copper iud.

My boyfriend and I are condom free. We only use them to lower stimulation but other than that it's great! Make sure his member is clean though, I caught a PID that way 😖
