do I have to lose mucous plug before labor will start?

I know you can lose gradually but I'm pretty sure mine is still intact haha. Im 40w3d..

Nope! I had no signs of labor other than crampy lower back pain and Braxton hicks for a week or two. No signs of change in discharge or losing mucus plug and two days before I was due my water broke at home when I went to get up from the couch. (Ironically my labor lasted two days and she came on her due date anyways via c section but that's a whole other story hah).

I am 40+3 and I woke up this morning with bloody show and heard a huge blunk in the toilet, and lots of goo when I wiped. Nothing anymore since and I am assuming mine all came out and I'm still doing good. No contractions but it kills to walk now.

It can happen during labor. Most first time mamas go 1-2weeks past their estimated due date!
