Could a relationship ever work?

I've been in a FWB sorta relationship with this guy for over a year now. When we originally decided to start fooling around, we both weren't looking for a relationship as we both had just come out of bad breakups. We decided to keep the whole thing quiet because we had a lot of mutual friends and didn't want it to be weird. Over the course of this past year, I think we both started developing feelings for each other. He has told me on several occasions that he loves me, that I'm like the female version of him, and that he wants to be with me in the future. However whenever I say something to that effect, he immediately shuts me down by saying that what we have is meaningless and that I'm just one of his many girls. We argue often, mostly over jealousy. I think he purposely tries to flirt with girls in front of me and he doesn't like when I talk to his friends behind his back. I don't know what to do at this point. A year has gone by and I'm not sure if it's worth trying to start a relationship with this guy. I genuinely love him and he's one of my best friends so I don't know what to do.
