Vitamin D for your newborn

Has your pediatrician told you to give vitamin d to your newborns? If so, which one are you using? I got her Enfamil's and it is may be giving her tiny white pimples around her neckline and some on her forehead. I saw it happen to some on Amazon.

Yes, The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that all babies receive routine vitamin D supplementation (400 IU per day) due to decreased sunlight exposure and an increase in rickets. If your baby is exclusively breast fed you yourself can take vitamin D supplements and then transfer it to your baby through your breastmilk.  Most pediatricians will recommend 6400 IU /day. The bottle I have at home comes in 2000 IU/capsules so I'm taking 3 per day to get the recommended amount. The white pimples are a natural occurrence in newborns. They are called Milia and are caused by blocked oil glands on your baby's skin and face. These will go away eventually once the baby's oil glands enlarge and open up.

Since I am breastfeeding her doc just told me to take 1000mg of vitamin D. She was slightly jaundiced and it's cleared up significantly.

My LO's pediatrician said to supplement with vitamin D drops since he's EBF. She told me that our bodies don't do a very good job of passing vitamin D onto our babies even if we aren't deficient (and most people are) so that supplementing my LO directly is best.

We were told to give the 400 units of Vit. D per day and started our baby on the enfamil brand. It did not sit well with our LO's tummy bc he would become inconsolable about 1 hr later. We switched to Baby D Drops and have had no problems. Plus, it's one drop for the whole dose instead of 1 mL with the enfamil. Definitely has been a game changer.

Our Pedi told us we could just take the baby outside (baby is strictly breastfed) but I asked for a recommendation on vitamin D drops. She recommended Baby Ddrops.
