Does it bother anyone else?

When people say "I know someome that has done it and there baby is fine."  well that lady got lucky! Out of all the kids that are affected by it you friends child didn't. These type of comments irratate me real bad.

YES! It's like we have a whole bunch of women encouraging other women to do idiotic things, because they did, or their mom did, or their ancestors did... Just make informed decisions, don't make a big decision based on your best friend's aunt's sister in law, who once lived next door to an orthopedic surgeon. Goodness.

It's often said to people who've already done something they realize afterwards might have been damaging. Is it better to say "sorry, that tuna sandwich probably means your baby has no hands now"?

Also, if you look at studies about pregnancy+many things, anecdotal evidence is often the best there is. You can't exactly do controlled experiments on pregnant women where you feed loads of steak carpaccio and raw cookie dough to one group and none to another.

What worries me more is that people don't actually take the time to look up any of the studies or research behind any of the pregnancy advice and then feel like they've made an "informed decision"

Omg yes! Especially the women who encourage pregnant women to drink during pregnancy BC so and so that they know drank their whole pregnancy and their child is fine now, that bs really gets on my nerve's. I'm glad some people's kids get lucky and have healthy kids but don't encourage other mothers to do the same BC they might get lucky too, what if they don't?

I'm not sure it 'bothers' me, but it makes me think the person who said it is not very smart and doesn't understand how risk works. I completely write off any 'advice' they give. I'm fed up with people offering unsolicited advice generally and tell a lot of people that I'll do my own research and speak to qualified medical professionals so they can save their breath.

Oh I hate that!!! Like I don't care what other people did with their kids this is not your child! My own parents say stuff like that like oh we let you do such and such and your fine like I dont care!!
