Dating shut who's still in love with his ex.

So I been friends with this guy who recently got out of a relationship & he told me he's not looking to get in another one soon, which I get but my thing Is, he's still communicating with his Ex and telling her he's never leaving her side & nobody with take her place ( he doesn't know I know ) and he told me he likes that we can joke together, & he like being around me but it's like I don't wanna get hurt because I do have feelings for him when he's still in love with his ex. Should I just remove myself from this ?? I really like this guy but I just feel like us talking is a waste of time & he'll never get over her .
