when does the excitement kick in?

Question

I am 40 and I tried for years to conceive and couldn't. We started the adoption process a year ago and found out 2 weeks ago that I am pregnant. I don't know what's blocking the excitement. Maybe the severe morning sickness. Maybe it's the fear of ms. Anyone else wanting children but not excited to be pregnant?

After 3 losses and 2 failed IVFs, I decided to chuck my anxiety & fear out the window and enjoy this pregnancy for as long as it would last. Granted, I didn't go crazy buying baby stuff but I allowed myself to be happy from the first positive test.

My husband, on the other hand, only let himself get excited as we got closer and closer to our 19w anatomy scan. Two different attitudes, same baby.

I'm 40 and this is my 3rd pregnancy in 18 months. 1 MC and a tubal back in June. I have 2 other kids and we really want another but all I'm feeling is anxiety. Seems like this was easier when my older kids were born. I took 1 pregnancy test and never even heard of the term quantitative HCG testing or advanced maternal age

I've wanted to be a mom for years (I'm 37 now, 16w with my first) and I think it's partly that it still doesn't feel like it really happened, and partly because I feel half the time like something will happen to make it not result in me actually having a child.

I tried for years with an ex fiancé to get pregnant and when it didn't work I thought something was wrong with me. It then happened immediately with my new relationship so it feels like it might never really sink in. I don't think this makes us bad moms though! Everyone processes the transition differently.

I'd say it took me a while. This was my 3rd pregnancy and I was worried something would be wrong due to my age at the time (39). I was pretty excited around week 18. When I found out every looked good and I was having my first girl.  Now that I'm 40 and was told no more, period. We kinda wish we would have not spaced our kids so far part. There 18, 11 and 15 weeks. 💖

I am in a certain denial I think. If I look at his little crib or tiny mitten I get excited. But I can't believe it. FTM at 39. I am now 42w too!! I can really feel baby. But he won't come. I actually asked my husband if he thought maybe the ultrasounds were recordings of previous babies, and may be no me wants to tell us we aren't having a baby. I get excited thinking about his little fingers. So somethings resonate more with than others.

I think if you have had a miscarriage or have been trying forever it's harder to get excited. I think when you have tried so hard for so long eventually you think it's never gonna happen so you don't want to let yourself fully believe it's happening so you won't let yourself get to excited for fear it will all go away. I'm 20 weeks with my third child, forth pregnancy, miscarried at 5 weeks with the last pregnancy so I'm afraid to be super happy. You are not alone
