Birth Center or Hospital Birth?

I just found out last week that we are expecting. I know it is still early (Day 37) but we are already considering birth options. Birthing Center or Hospital? Any thoughts? Anyone have any stories?

I had a homebirth and I think it's a wonderful way to birth but between those two options I would definitely say birthing center.

Midwife at a hospital just in case a doctor is needed. I have heard amazing things about midwives spending more time with you, and the natural birthing process.

I've done them both and just found out I'm pregnant again do now I'm going through it too. I didn't nessisarily like the hospital. They treated me like everyone else, like a stranger and pushed me to do things I wasn't comfortable doing. And my birth Center experience was way better. They met me family, they knew my name, remembered my babies name even thought she wasn't here yet. I loved my birthing center experience.

I'm opting for a home birth, but many of my friends have gone to birth centers and have all had wonderful natural birthing experiences. My dear friend is a midwife so she will be my care provider during my pregnancy and labor. She said that if you want a natural birth, a birthing center is going to be sure to assist you in anyway they can whereas at hospitals, they are more willing to do sometimes unnecessary interventions.

Birth centers are a great option if you are planning a natural birth. They're lower intervention and most of the time midwife run. Your prenatal visits will be more comprehensive and you are more likely to have your wishes honored during birth.

With my last pregnancy, a midwife followed me until 32 weeks. I then started seeing an OB along with the midwife. I had planned on delivering at the birthing center, but for some reason ended up to going with the hospital...very thankful I did because I hemorrhaged and had to have 2 blood transfusions, before being transferred to the OR to finish up internal stitching. I had no prior history that would have indicated I would have trouble; extremely healthy, normal pregnancy,  not a crazy labor, baby was turned the right way, etc. So...I am ALL FOR midwives and birthing centers, BUT I will always deliver at a hospital with a midwife or doula just because of what could happen. You truly just never know. Good luck!!!

I'm loving the idea of two birth centres I've seen in the UK. One has communal kitchen and bed for your partner to stay with you rather than be sent home like a lot of UK hospitals. You get your own private room with bath and equipment like exercise balls and aromatherapy services. Love the stereo system as will definitely be wanting music. Both are located near a hospital if needed but birthing centres only accept you if you meet certain criteria anyway. Just love the idea of being able to have a bit of freedom in a birthing centre as apposed to a ward

Hospital, we don't have a birthing center where I live.  Luckily I've found an ob that I love!
