Bassinet; Yay or Nay?

Question

I'm not going to co-sleep and I plan on only pumping. So, I'm wondering if I need a bassinet AND a crib. I'm going to have to get up to feed no matter what, and when my husband goes back to work, his alarm is going to go off at 5am and I don't want it to wake the baby. I'm thinking about not getting a bassinet but wondering what other mom's are doing.

I say crib because bassinets are kept by mommy side but if you will use a crib then baby can be kept at a distance which will help them sleep on their own. I'm a ftm so I'm thinking the same.

I will be cosleeping with baby but this is my idea.

I always use a bassinet even when bottle feeding. It just gives peace of mind when the baby first comes home. The rock and play is awesome if you want something different and travels well.

I like a bassinet for the first couple of months because of how much they wake up they are right there. They grow out of them quickly though so I say if you aren't nursing and have to get up to make bottle anyway just go straight to a crib. It'll save you money. My older 2 went straight to a crib even though I was nursing and it was all fine 🙂

I just finished reading babywise - giving your infant the gift of nighttime sleep. Excellent book! I would absolutely go bassinet because I don't want to start my baby off with bad sleeping habits.
