how do you know if your water breaks?

I've had bladder leakage and discharge so how will I know that my water has broken if it does?

I guess I'm just confused because normally I have a white or colored discharge and it seems to be clear. However it's a small small amount in my underwear when I check. Like maybe the size of two quarters. So definitely isn't gushing or anything like that. I tried smelling it but I can't tell if it smells like pee or not. I feel like an idiot lol.

I ve never had my water break beside when the doctors have done it. It was a LOT of water and its warm. and every time i walked i would leak not just like a dribble but like i had to change those huge pads they have you wear.

I was told if I wasn't sure to put a pad on and if if fills in an hour then it's most likely my water.

My doctor said you know because it's a constant leak or a large gush that keeps leaking. She said gradual small leaks are actually rare and only has around two patients a year with what she called a "high leak." But she said only 20% of her patients have their water break before going into labor.

I felt mine pop when I sat up in bed then it leaked down my leg and kept leaking. 
I think they say to lay down and if it stops and then leaks when you stand up again then it is your water.
