I have that several times a day for a few months... Not sure what the difference is between that and mucous plug though? Google images wasn't very helpful :(

Mine has looked like that for a few months. How far along are you?!

It looks more like discharge.  But cramps and irregular contractions are normal the closer you get to the end.
