expectations for mixed baby?

Hubby's family was eating over and of course the baby came up in the conversation. They started talking about looks (he is Mexican I am Caucasian) and how the baby "better come out with light blue eyes or she'll just look Mexican". I'm not sure if it's the hormones or what but I got so upset!!! This baby will be a beautiful blend of both of us and I hadn't even worried about what she will look like.

They kept making comments about how if she doesn't look white to stop having babies because they will look odd!!! I'm in tears right now. I cannot believe they would say that to us when all we want is a healthy baby!

How do I deal with this? I honestly don't want to be around them anymore since they all seem to agree with their comments! I don't want my baby to EVER hear those comments from her own family.

It's not your hormones. Sadly people just don't know when to shut up. I personally would have said something but it's in the past now. My boyfriend has made side comments about how he hopes our daughter come out his competition (I'm dark skinned and he's fair skinned) in the African American community usually lighter skin is more desirable. I told him he's in for a rude awaking when she comes out looking like me I have strong genes 🙂

My MIL hopes my son has my red hair. However, he's Cuban/Honduran so there's like zero chance that this kid will have red hair. Damn recessive genes!!!

My husband is Mexican and I'm White, and I for one can't wait to see my mixed beautiful boy!! I have had a few negative people around me recently and I'm just blocking them out of my life! Let your kid rock there amazing genes - tell them every day they are beautiful and if his family don't adore the baby when they arrive then they don't need to be part of his/her life xx 🇲🇽🇬🇧

I'm Chinese and my husband is Indian, and while most family and friends seem really curious about her looks, no one has made any offensive comments about skin color or facial features yet luckily! Hang in there, I'd be annoyed too!

I'm half Mexican and Korean (tan skin, curly black hair, brown eyes) and my husband is Swedish (fair skin, green eyes, black hair) and people keep on commenting on how our son is going to have an identity crisis growing up and will look "interesting" and just little things like that. I know they don't mean harm but at the same time it does get exhausting to hear all the time. Especially my mom's comments (she's Korea) saying how she hopes the baby looks like his dad and isn't tan like me 😐 I just learned to tune her out when she says stupid things like that.

That's how my in laws are. My husband is Hispanic I'm half Caucasian half Hispanic. They always say how they hope she has colored eyes and light hair. I highly doubt it since I have dark brown hair and brown eyes and so does hubby. I just have really pale skin. The only thing I'm hoping for is that she has my husbands eye lashes! Lol it's really unfair how beautiful his lashes are

It's a cultural thing, and for some cultures the "mix" or appearance of their ethnicity blended with another is still old school thinking. It's something they fixate on. I know it's hard not to be offended because it's offensive!! And it will be difficult just to ignore the comments. Maybe try discussing it with your hubby and see what his perspective is, what his family means by it, etc.. definitely don't listen to them as far as procreating is concerned! I was actually just discussing this with a friend who is Mexican and her hubby is white..her family will call her daughter "guera" (white girl) but she explains for them it's a term of endearment or nickname. It doesn't bother her or her hubby, and her daughter is doted on by the whole family. Weird, I know. But in some families it differs.

Your child can come out looking either straight up white or straight Mexican. Personally I would have to shut that conversation down because it sounds ignorant, as king as you have a healthy baby why are people so caught Up on looks?
