How soon do you call a birth centre?

I'm 5 weeks, and I know I would rather go to a birth centre than a hospital. Do I have to make sure I'm not a high risk pregnancy at a doctors office first? How soon can I call? And what do I say? thank you!

I never talked to a doctor before I called my birth center. My midwife determined that I was low risk; if you have concerns, though, it might be good to talk to a doctor first. I would say call the BC as soon as possible, because they usually take a limited number of clients.

Yes you do have to make sure your not high risk first. The birth centre in my area takes bookings from 5 weeks, probably around the same for most birth centres. talk it though with your doctor/midwife before calling
