Weight gain in first tri

I'm on my third pregnancy, 12 weeks and 5 days along.

With my first pregnancy, I lost TONS of weight in my first trimester due to throwing up everything I ate and/or feeling too nauseous to keep much down. But I was able to gain it all back (and then some!) after that trimester.

My second pregnancy, I had no issues with my weight or vomiting/nausea.

This time, I am hungry allllllll the time. And trust me, I eat. I had some vomiting in the beginning, but more nausea than anything else. I'm already showing pretty well, but my weight is of some concern to my doctor. Apparently in one week, I lost a pound and a half, even though I eat all the time. He said I need more calories and wants me to get checked again on Tuesday to see if I've gained anything, and if I haven't, he mentioned starting me on "something to help me gain weight." I seriously do not want anything, even if it's considered safe for the baby, because I just don't like medicine. I have no idea though why I'm not gaining..I eat light in the mornings, snack between then and lunch, have lunch, snack again, huge dinner, and have a massive snack before bed. I sometimes even wake up in the middle of the night to eat. 90% of everything I eat is healthy: veggies, fruits, whole grains, dairy, lean meats..is that causing me not to gain, even though I inhale food?
